COLOR YOUR LIFE WITH ALOHA

Hi, my name is Keiko and I love making watercolors! I'm half Japanese, half German and spent most of my life in Southern Germany and Switzerland before moving to Kona, on the Big island of Hawai'i. For 12 years I worked as a professional photographer for weddings, before getting sucked into the rabbithole that led me to the world of watercolors.

In the summer of 2016 I started out with just a few pigments and very little information on how to actually create watercolors. It's been a journey of lots of trial and error, geckos eating the paint, sticky or too dry pans, and multi-colored hands and desk spaces until I finally felt confident enough to open my first watercolor store in 2018. I still walk around with paint splattered hands most of the days but found a way to keep the geckos away from the paint :-)

Every single paint is handmade by me, with a binder made of organic honey here from the Big island and a few more magical ingredients, and with high quality pigments.

If you enjoy watching tutorials and process videos about watercolors, watercolor making and handlettering, connect with me on Instagram (@thealohastudios) (@alohawatercolors) or on Youtube. Together with Stacey from @stakiwicolours I'm co-hosting the @alohakiwichallenge every month on my IG account @alohawatercolors. It's a good way to practice your painting skills and to learn a little bit about mixing colors and painting techniques.
